Set for the Defense of the Gospel

Philippians 1:17 "…knowing that I am set for the defense of the gospel."

Introduction: True Christians need to realize the responsibility that is given them to defend the truth of the Gospel. Many today allow compromise to be their mindset. This ought not to be the case. Christians should realize that the savior that died for us is worth defending. It is his words that make the Gospel

I.   Preparation for Defense
Study – II Timothy 2:15 and John 5:39

Learning to use the sword – Ephesians 6:17 and Hebrews 4:12-13

Learning about the love of saving the lost – John 10:15, Acts 7:51-60 (as did Stephen), and I Corinthians 9:16

A true faith not being moved easily– I Corinthians 15:58

Being aware of our enemy – I Peter 5:8

II.   Defending the Truth
Earnestly contend - Jude 3

Fight the good fight – I Timothy 6:12

Preaching the word at all times – II Timothy 4:1-5

Not being ashamed of preaching the Gospel – Romans 1:16

Realizing that without the truth the world would perish – John 17:17, Romans 10:14-17, James 1:21, Ephesians 1:13, and James 3:13-18

III.   Defending the Church
Realize the price that was paid – Ephesians 5:25 and Acts 20:28

Realize the "oneness" of the Church – Ephesians 4:4 and Ephesians 1:22-23

Realize that if there is no Church there is no salvation – Ephesians 5:23

Realize to preach Christ we must preach his Church – Acts 8:12, Matthew 13:19, and I Corinthians 1:18 (the cross was the place in which the acquisition of the Church occurred).

Conclusion: With what Christ did for us, can we not do some defending of him?
