“Nor Inclined My Ear To Them That Instructed Me!”
I. Introduction:
A. Sometimes disciples of the Lord walk away (John 6:60-66).
- Some just love the world more than the Lord (II Timothy 4:10).
- Some disciples just get worn down by various factors in life (Mark 4:14-19).
- This is not just through false doctrine, but some are corrupted through sinners in various other ways (Psalms 106:34-35, Proverbs 22:24-25, and I Corinthians 15:33).
- Thus, saints are warned not to be led away with the error of the wicked (II Peter 3:17).
II. Body: Proverbs 5:1-14
A. The strange woman that had a way with words (Proverbs 2:16-19).
- Good instruction is the preventative measure (Proverbs 6:20-28).
- To keep from falling into her which is likened to a narrow pit (Proverbs 23:27).
- Strange women are not the only dangers. Others can be convincing in turning the faithful away from the Lord (Colossians 2:8).
- To stop listening is to turn from the way of life (Proverbs 6:23).
- Looking back, you can see that those who reject the truth reach a point of no remedy (II Chronicles 36:14-16; cf. Proverbs 6:12-15).
- The one who is not listening is not using God’s word as God intended for it to be used (Psalms 119:9-11 and II Timothy 3:14-17).
- Bodily presence doesn’t mean much (I Corinthians 11:16-19).
- Outward indicators of faithfulness are not sure statements (Psalms 50:16-17 and Matthew 23:27-28).
- Saying the right things at the right times doesn’t mean much either (Titus 1:16).
III. Conclusion: Don’t ever turn your ear from hearing the truth (Psalms 19:7-11, Psalms 37:31, and John 12:48).
