God’s Word Is Very Much Alive
I. Introduction: People today often refer to the Scriptures as a useless ancient relic. They think and state that the word of God is outdated, and thus inapplicable.
A. Who has infinite [innumerable] understanding [intelligence] (Psalms 147:5)?
- Would man dare think He could investigate God’s understanding (Isaiah 55:8-9 and Romans 11:33-36)?
- Long ago, before revelation was anywhere near complete, God’s thoughts were innumerable (Psalms 139:17-18).
B. Long ago, those that were considered wise were shown not to be when they rejected the word of the Lord (Jeremiah 8:9).
- Those truly wise would not glory in the wisdom or strength of men (Jeremiah 9:23-24).
- It doesn’t take much to confound the wise of this world (I Corinthians 1:26-29).
II. Body: Hebrews 4:12
A. The word of God is incorruptible [undecaying] (I Peter 1:22-25).
- Beyond the physicality of this world (Psalms 119:89 and Mark 13:31).
- His word doesn’t fail (Isaiah 55:10-11).
B. God’s word brings life (John 6:63).
- The word of God also brings to life that which would otherwise perish (Psalms 119:93 and James 1:18-21).
- His word brings about spiritual birth (I Corinthians 4:15).
- His word brought into existence all that was and has been created by Him in our universe (Genesis 1:1-31, Psalms 33:6, and Hebrews 11:3).
C. The answers will ALWAYS be in God’s word (Psalms 119:92, Psalms 119:130, II Timothy 3:15-17, and II Peter 1:1-4) rather than in the minds of men (Proverbs 3:5-7).
- What to avoid that will harm your health (Proverbs 12:4, Proverbs 14:30, Proverbs 17:22, I Corinthians 6:18, etc.).
- The type of people to avoid (Proverbs 1:10-19, Proverbs 4:14-19, Proverbs 14:7, Proverbs 22:24, Proverbs 26:17-22, etc.).
- If afflicted mentally (Psalms 119:50 and Psalms 119:165).
- If erring spiritually (Psalms 119:59-60).
- How to live in a sinful world, behind enemy lines (Romans 12:17-21).
- God’s word will always have countless answers. How else do you think one can continue to grow in knowledge (II Peter 3:18)?
III. Conclusion: God’s word will continue to be active in believers (I Thessalonians 2:13).
