You Can Be Pardoned

Introduction:

Pardon - "A release from the penalties of an offense". God promised, God gave, and God wants us to be pardoned from our sins. This lesson is to make us see that and grab hold of it.

I. God promised a pardon for mankind

A. He said there would come a time when he would forgive and remember no more Jeremiah 31:31-34 "31. Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32. Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord: 33. But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more." This passage is quoted: Hebrews 8:9-13 & Hebrews 10:16-18 1. For true forgiveness there must be a washing and a change of direction (repentance) Isaiah 1:15-19 "15. And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood. 16. Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; 17. Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. 18. Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. 19. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land." B. It was promised that the lamb would come and take on the sins of all Isaiah 53:3-12

C. A cleansing was coming Jeremiah 33:7-11 " 7. And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first. 8. And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against me. 9. And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I procure unto it. 10. Thus saith the Lord; Again there shall be heard in this place, which ye say shall be desolate without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man, and without inhabitant, and without beast, 11. The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the Lord of hosts: for the Lord is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the Lord."

1. The bridegroom is Christ Matthew 9:14-15. The Bride is the church Ephesians 5:22-32 D. Pardon occurs through the shedding of blood Hebrews 9:22 "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission."
II. God kept His promise A. He had a plan in the beginning Ephesians 3:9 "And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ." 1. That plan has been revealed - the church Ephesians 3:10 "To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God." a. The saved are in the church Acts 2:47 "Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."

b. The church is the only saved Ephesians 5:23 "For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body." The body being the church Ephesians 1:22-23.

B. He sent Christ to die for us John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." 1. We are cleansed by His blood Revelation 1:5 "And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood."

3. God presented His grace through Christ Romans 3:24-25 "24. Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 5. Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God."

III. His offer has a expiration date A. Pardon must be sought while there is time Isaiah 55:6-7 "6. Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon."

B. Tomorrow may be too late James 4:13-14 "13. Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14. Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away."

C. We never know what is in the future Proverbs 27:1 "Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth."

1. Only God knows when the time is up and the Judgment will be Mark 13:31-32 "31. Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. 32. But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father."

2. When the Lord comes II Peter 3:10 "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up."

a. Then he will judge Matthew 24:36-51
