Exposing The Seventh-day Adventists (Part 5)
By: Brian A. Yeager
In this our fifth and final article exposing the errors of the Seventh-day Adventists (SDA from here forward), we’ll see what they teach concerning the coming of Christ. Like many erring religious bodies, this denomination takes the word of God on this subject and stretches it far beyond what God has really said. In fact, they really teach a second and third coming of Christ. Let’s see what they are teaching and compare that with the Bible.
Their Second and Third Coming Of Christ Doctrine
The SDA says this about the return of Christ: “27. Millennium and the End of Sin: The millennium is the thousand-year reign of Christ with His saints in heaven between the first and second resurrections. During this time the wicked dead will be judged; the earth will be utterly desolate, without living human inhabitants, but occupied by Satan and his angels. At its close Christ with His saints and the Holy City will descend from heaven to earth. The unrighteous dead will then be resurrected, and with Satan and his angels will surround the city; but fire from God will consume them and cleanse the earth. The universe will thus be freed of sin and sinners forever. (Rev. 20; 1 Cor. 6:2, 3; Jer. 4:23-26; Rev. 21:1-5; Mal. 4:1; Eze. 28:18, 19)” (http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/fundamental/index.html).
Anyone can make a statement and throw some Scriptures out to claim those Scriptures support their doctrine. I hope you will take the time to read the Scriptures they’ve cited and their contexts. We will not quote them here in this article for the sake of space. Now, when someone is using the book of Revelation to argue something about the coming of Christ and some reign of a thousand years, they are greatly missing the truth. The book of Revelation certainly, like most books of the New Testament, has some things concerning the Judgment Day (i.e. Revelation 20:13-15). However, the overall message of the Book of Revelation is one that would shortly come to pass which affected the churches in Asia Minor (Revelation 1:1-4). The Book of Revelation does not paint some picture of a physical war wherein a Holy City is surrounded and a war occurs before Satan is finally subdued. Christ does not need to win dominion over anyone, for He already has it (Matthew 28:18 and Ephesians 1:20-23).
In regard to I Corinthians 6:2-3, nothing is taught there to support their statements above. If you will take the time to read I Corinthians 6:1-8 you will see that context is talking about Christians not taking other Christians to civil courts for civil lawsuits and such the like. The SDA takes “saints shall judge the world” further than the Scriptures allow. Everyone will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ (II Corinthians 5:10). Our actions, as a pattern for others to follow (Titus 2:7), already judge the world (Matthew 5:13-16). This does not mean we will literally be judging people on the Judgment Day! As we will see before we conclude this article, the real truth about the Judgment Day shows this to be a perversion.
The SDA’s usage of Jeremiah 4:23-26, Ezekiel 28:18-19, and Malachi 4:1 is equally perverted as that which we’ve already seen. Each of these contexts are discussing God’s anger and His judgment concerning the children of Israel and have nothing to do with the return of Jesus Christ. It is amazing how denominations like the SDA twists these Scriptures that CLEARLY have nothing to do with the end of the world. Remember this, if it is a prophesy about a judgment day in the Old Testament, it was fulfilled before Christ instituted the New Testament which we now live under (Matthew 5:17-18). Therefore, no prophesy from Genesis to Malachi is about prophesying the end of the world! The prophesies of judgment on nations like Israel, Moab, Assyria, etc. have already been fulfilled. Now let’s get some things clear about the Second and final coming of Jesus Christ!
The Clear Truth About The Second Coming Of Christ
1. No Scripture tells us WHEN Christ will return (Matthew 24:42-51).
2. NO MAN knows when Christ will return (Matthew 24:35-36).
3. Christ is the author of the New Testament (John 12:48, John 16:13-14, and Hebrews 1:1-2). He did not know when He was going to come back again to give us any hidden signs concerning His return (Mark 13:31-32).
4. When Christ returns the earth will end (II Peter 3:10-14).
5. When Christ returns He will not step foot on earth nor will He take anyone temporarily to Heaven to return to earth at a later time (I Thessalonians 4:13-18).
6. Everyone will stand before the Judgment seat of Christ to give an account unto Him (Romans 14:10-12).
7. After you are judged you either will have eternal life in Heaven or eternal damnation in Hell (Matthew 25:31-46).
8. The unprepared will not be given a chance to change once Christ comes again (Matthew 25:1-30).
Any questions about the Second Coming of Christ should be answered as simply as the eight points above. Please, take the time to read those Scriptures and see the simplicity of the truth concerning the Second Coming of Christ. You can see that the eight Scriptural points above easily dispel the errors of the SDA, regarding the return of our Lord!
It is shameful that the SDA, like the other denominations we’ve examined, so disgustingly twist God’s word. As we conclude this series of articles about this erring group, we can know better how to teach people out of these errors. Yet, there are still many other denominational groups who have perverted the minds of their followers. Our next series of articles will examine the Christian Scientists whom were founded by Mary Baker Eddy. That should tell us all we need to know (cf. Matthew 16:18).
