A Thought to Consider…

The Psalmist said: “With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psalms 119:10-11).  Christians need to be of the same mind as the Psalmist wherein we need to seek God with our whole hearts and place His word within our hearts to avoid sin.  Of course, if we will seek properly the will of God it will be because we want to do so (Psalms 119:40).  The desire the Psalmist had, and we need to have, takes work (Psalms 119:30-32).

If we seek God with our whole hearts we will be blessed (Psalms 119:2).  When we find ourselves in sin we need to return to God in sincerity with our whole hearts to be among His people (Jeremiah 3:10).  When God has our whole heart (Matthew 22:37), that leaves no room for Satan (Ephesians 4:27).  Obedience has to come with understanding and keeping the will of God with our whole heart (Psalms 119:34).

As Christians we need to do all that we can to avoid sin (I Thessalonians 5:22).  We need to be aware that sin will cause us to lose our souls (Romans 6:23; cf. Matthew 25:41).  Jesus warned Peter saying: “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41).  When we commit sin we are the children of the devil (John 8:44 and I John 3:8).  Since we do not want that to be the case, we need to take the same precaution the Psalmist did.

To avoid eternal damnation as a child of the devil we have to hide the word of God in our hearts.  We have to receive God’s word, incline our hearts to understanding, our ears to wisdom, and hide His commandments within us (Proverbs 2:1-2).  Ignorance will not abolish our accountability as ignorance in itself is sinful (Acts 17:30).  Knowledge that comes through the word of God will fully equip us to do every good work (II Timothy 3:15-17).  We must therefore seek out the truth, study the truth, and know the truth to be set free from sin (Matthew 7:7, John 5:39, and John 8:32).  Then, we must apply the word of God to every aspect of our lives so that sin will have no place in us!

In the end, we ought to be able to tell God that we delight in keeping His word because we love to do so (Psalms 119:47).  We should be able to end our lives knowing that we have kept the faith (II Timothy 4:6-8).  That old serpent the devil has no chance against a faithful child of God who is appropriately prepared to face Him (Ephesians 6:10-11).  However, Satan finds easy targets in those who think doing a little good is all they are required to do in pleasing God (Deuteronomy 6:24-25 and James 2:10-12).  Obeying God is our only way to Heaven (Matthew 7:21 and I John 2:4-5).  Take the word of God and hide it in your heart to avoid sin.  – B.A.Y.

Chapter Twelve

Introduction Thoughts:

The seventh angel is sounding (11:15).  The third woe is here (11:14).  That woe is listed as (12:12): “…Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you , having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”  This chapter will speak of Satan’s work and the protection God has in place for the faithful.  We have seen the many things the Lord will do to punish the Roman Empire.  Now we will see that the work of the Devil will not be stopped by these things, but may be even fueled to a further degree.  The Roman’s rejected God’s warnings (9:20-21) and desire to slaughter those who represent the Lord (11:8-10).

12:1 “And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars.”

12:2 “And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.” 12:3 “And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.” 12:4 “And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.” 12:5 “And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.” 12:6 “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.” 12:7-9 “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels.  And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.  And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” 12:10 “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” 12:12 “Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.” 12:13 “And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.” 12:14 “And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.” 12:15 “And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.” 12:16 “And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.” 12:17 “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

What must one do to be saved (Acts 2:37)?  Hear and believe the Gospel (Mark 16:15-16), repent of their sins (Acts 3:19), confess Christ (Acts 8:37), and be baptized (immersed) for the remission of sins into the church (Acts 2:38, I Corinthians 12:12-13, and Romans 6:3-5).  One must then remain faithful (Revelation 2:10).
