The NIV (New International Version) Falls Short of Containing God’s Word
By: Brian A. Yeager

When a so-called “Bible Translation” says in the introduction that it is “striving for a more than a word for word translation”, one should know there are problems with that “Bible Version”.  The NIV states such and any study of it proves that it not only adds to God’s word, but it removes a lot of God’s words as well.  Both addition and subtraction from God’s word is sinful (Deuteronomy 4:2; 12:32, Proverbs 30:5-6, Galatians 1:6-12, and Revelation 22:18-19).

Below I am going to list how the NIV reads in several places within the New Testament.  With what you will notice, consider that the NIV reads as this in Luke 4:4 “Jesus answered, "It is written: Man does not live on bread alone."   In that particular passage the NIV omits: “…but by every word of God.”  You will notice that they omit those words because the NIV does not contain “every word of God” that has been revealed unto man.  Notice what’s missing in the following samples out of the NIV:

NIV Matthew 18:10-12
 10.  "See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.
 12.  "What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?

NIV Matthew 17:20-22
20.  He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, `Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. "
 22.  When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men.

NIV Matthew 23:13-15
13.  "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.
 15.  "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.

NIV Mark 7:15-17
 15.  Nothing outside a man can make him `unclean' by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him `unclean.' "
 17.  After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable.

NIV Mark 9:43-47
43.  If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.
 45.  And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.
 47.  And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,

NIV Mark 11:25-27
 25.  And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. "
 27.  They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him.

NIV Mark 15:27-29
27.  They crucified two robbers with him, one on his right and one on his left.
29.  Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, "So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,

NIV Mark 16:9
9.  [[The most reliable early manuscripts and other ancient witnesses do not have Mark 16:9-20.]]

NIV Luke 17:35-37
35.  Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left. "
37.  "Where, Lord?" they asked.   He replied, "Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather."

NIV Luke 23:16-18
 16.  Therefore, I will punish him and then release him. "
 18.  With one voice they cried out, "Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!"

NIV John 5:3-5
3.  Here a great number of disabled people used to lie--the blind, the lame, the paralyzed.
 5.  One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.

NIV Acts 8:36-38
 36.  As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?"
 38.  And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.

NIV Acts 15:33-35
 33.  After spending some time there, they were sent off by the brothers with the blessing of peace to return to those who had sent them.
 35.  But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, where they and many others taught and preached the word of the Lord.

NIV Acts 24:6-8
 6.  and even tried to desecrate the temple; so we seized him.
 8.  By  examining him yourself you will be able to learn the truth about all these charges we are bringing against him."

NIV Acts 28:28-30
 28.  "Therefore I want you to know that God's salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!"
 30.  For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him.

NIV Romans 16:23-25
23.  Gaius, whose hospitality I and the whole church here enjoy, sends you his greetings.   Erastus, who is the city's director of public works, and our brother Quartus send you their greetings.
 25.  Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past,

Conclusion

To those who worked on the NIV I must say: “…ye have perverted the words of the living God…” (Jeremiah 23:36).    Sadly, many are ignorant to these errors and will be lost for following the false doctrines contained in the modern perversion known as the NIV.  It is also interesting to think about how much the NIV has removed from God’s word in light of what Jesus taught in the “Parable of the Sower”.  In that Parable Jesus said: “Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved” (Luke 8:12).  According to the words of our Lord, one could accurately conclude that the mastermind of the NIV is Satan himself.  The errors of the NIV are far greater than just these few omissions.  We will see more of those errors in next week’s bulletin.

What must one do to be saved (Acts 2:37)?  Hear and believe the Gospel (Mark 16:15-16), repent of their sins (Acts 3:19), confess Christ (Acts 8:37), and be baptized (immersed) for the remission of sins into the church (Acts 2:38, I Corinthians 12:12-13, and Romans 6:3-5).  One must then remain faithful (Revelation 2:10).
