     During my recent trip to South Bend, Indiana to try and get a brother to repent of error, I was given a tape of a sermon entitled “The Greatest Sermon Ever Preached”.  The speaker on that tape was Antoine Holloway.  The sermon was preached the morning of January 25th, 2004 at the Caroline Street church of Christ in South Bend, Indiana.  At a point on that tape Antoine was saying that he had sinned.  He was generic by not naming any specific sin, but he was getting around to the fact that he was not perfect while he was extending a Billy Graham style of an invitation (an invitation using only Revelation 3:20, having testimonials / confessions by men and women during worship, etc. - HEAR THIS ON TAPE BY CLICKING HERE - ANTOINE ON TAPE - QUOTE 1).  He then said the most arrogant and proud remarks I have ever heard from any Christian.  He said (exact quote): “Yea, I might be a preacher, but guess what - I’m not perfek.  I make mistakes.  I fall short of God’s glory.  But, guess what – what makes me an outstanding preacher, an extraordinary preacher – is my ability to admit that I’m only human.  I might be a superhuman, but guess what – I’m still human.  Know kryptonite makes me weak just like superman does.  But you know what – I’m goin’ through.”  (HEAR THIS ON AUDIO BY CLICKING HERE - ANTOINE ON TAPE - QUOTE 2)

     Among many false doctrines this young man has taught and the division he has caused in the local church there (these things will be written about in weeks to come in this bulletin), Antoine shows absolutely no humility.  He cannot even properly claim that he can make mistakes, as he claims to be superhuman.  One could only be as disgusted as I am by also hearing the tone of this brother in this and other sermons he preached in South Bend, Indiana while splitting the Caroline Street church of Christ.  The next few bulletin articles will deal with Antoine’s false teaching of “Unconditional Forgiveness” and his attempts to “clarify” instead of repent of this error.  We will expose in the next few articles his desire for money by wanting a commission pay structure.  We will see that Antoine thinks so highly of himself that he started a teachers training class in his 3rd month of preaching and demanded that no one could teach unless he first trained them.  We will address his desire to introduce women into committees overseeing works of the local church, and we will even expose further tales and errors of this misguided brother.  The pride and arrogance of this young man will not doubt lead himself and others to Hell.  For this reason he needs to be exposed (Romans 16:17-18).

     (Proverbs 16:18) “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”  Why does pride go before destruction?  Why should a man that “thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall” (I Corinthians 10:12)?  A man that sees himself as a superior to others will often not heed their rebukes.  A man that sees himself as a high and mighty individual often begins to conclude that he is far from being wrong on any thing.  A proud individual needs to realize how far they are from failure.  (Proverbs 18:12) “Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.”  God resists the proud (James 4:6), but He exalts the humble (James 4:10).

     When approached, a man like Antoine Holloway often jumps to the conclusion that you had misunderstood him, for he cannot be wrong.  This is what the faithful few remaining brethren at the Caroline Street church of Christ in South Bend, IN have found.  They found that Antoine Holloway is a glory-seeker.

     Antoine Holloway spent part of a sermon on the 25th of January, 2004 by rebuking the brethren for not appreciating him (TO HEAR ANTOINE DO THIS CLICK HERE - ANTOINE ON TAPE - QUOTE 3).  A man does not dedicate himself to the preaching of the Gospel to be appreciated among men.  As a matter of a fact, a preacher of the Gospel of Christ should expect the opposite (Luke 6:26).  A man who is serving the Lord should be attempting to give all glory to God as should all Christians (I Corinthians 10:31 and Ephesians 3:20-21).

     On Antoine’s old webpage (www.speakboldly.com) he had his biography written in the third person.  At the conclusion of that biography he had this statement: “God is really using this brother in Christ at a very young age to speak boldly the truths of the gospel of Christ. There is definitely a shortage of gospel preachers, men of God who will preach and defend the truth, but it is good to know that Antoine Holloway is on the Lord's side.”  He then acknowledged that he “never went to college for Theology, but rather in Information Technology where he currently holds several certifications in different computer programs and applications.”  Now he claims (http://www.anholloway.com/holloway/p1.html - quoted as typed on his webpage) “Throughout my lifetime, God has blessed me and has given me the opportunity to earn documention in many disciplines such as Information Technology, Business Administration, and the Scriptures, in which I am forever a student.”  I was amazed to learn from the brethren in South Bend, IN (John Joppa and James Hammonds) that Antoine actually had a document in his office claiming he had a degree in Divinity.  Clearly a young man here is out for glory of himself instead of the Lord, even if he has to be dishonest.  This attitude has led to men and women following this young man into further apostasy.

     I drove 376 miles to South Bend, Indiana on Monday the 1st of March, 2004 to meet with Antoine.  This superhuman would look out the window at me and another fellow, but would not answer his door.  I returned alone and even took pictures of Antoine being home and looking out his window.  Along with a fellow still remaining at the Caroline Street congregation we traveled over 110 miles just around town in two days to visit those who left with Antoine to form another congregation.  Some were not home, others were not too inviting, but we did get the opportunity to speak to several folks.  Among those whom we spoke with we found one thing they had in common.  These folks loved Antoine and were following him.  They did not care about his many doctrinal errors, his poor attitude, or even his unwillingness to discuss the issues causing the division of a local church.  One brother said that the doctrinal issues were secondary to him.  They followed a man instead of following the Lord, which is sinful (I Corinthians 1:10-13; Colossians 2:8).

     Antoine said on tape that he wanted to be appreciated.  He found a group of people who are willing to do that for him.  The brethren who left the Caroline Street congregation ignored Biblical warnings such as that made of men like Diotrephes who wanted the preeminence: (III John 11) “Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.”  Those brethren are giving Antoine the glory and money that he desires.

     If I remember correctly “kryptonite” was green and the Superman of TV found this to be a weakness.  Well, Antoine Holloway has his weakness that comes in the color of green as well.  Antoine thought so highly of himself that in October of 2003 he proposed to the men that he should get a 2% increase in support if the contribution raised, 1% if attendance raised, and 2% if the membership raised (Antoine Holloway’s October 2004 Business Meeting Outline).  His main support is now coming from a wealthy non-Christian man that Antoine’s teachings appeal to, whose wife attends with Antoine.  Truly, this brother made merchandise of the brethren and was covetous (II Peter 2:1-3).

     Antoine Holloway was a friend of mine.  When I learned of his doings I contacted him by phone and email.  After several correspondences and my learning the truth of what he was doing he wrote to me “We had a great friendship while it lasted.”  I was deeply hurt as I was instrumental in helping Antoine come out of Institutionalism.  I know that Antoine reads this bulletin online.  My words to him have to this point fallen on deaf ears.  It is my prayer that he will realize that he is hurting himself now (and eternally) along with his family and other weak brethren.  The Lord is “longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”  (II Peter 3:10)  Even though Antoine has done some disgusting things recorded above, what will be revealed in further articles is even worse.  Dear reader, pray that Antoine will repent this day and cause those articles to be forever put on hold.
