What Is One Saying When They Say the Don’t Like the Truth?

Introduction:

A. Sometimes we speak without considering what we are saying or the consequences of our words:

1. Proverbs 15:2
2. Proverbs 18:7
3. Consider Job’s wife as an example: Job 2:9-10
4. We’ll be judged for everything we say: Matthew 12:35-37

B. Sadly, too many just don’t want to hear the truth:

1. We, like Ezekiel, dwell among a rebellious people: Ezekiel 12:2
2. Being deaf to the truth is a choice: Matthew 13:15
3. They just are choosing their own way instead of God’s way: Romans 10:3

I. When You Don’t Like the Truth, You Are Saying You Don’t Like God’s Word

A. When we talk about “the truth”, we are talking about:

1. Psalms 33:4
2. John 17:17
3. Colossians 1:5
4. II Corinthians 6:7
5. I Thessalonians 2:13
6. James 1:18

B. If you don’t like the word of God, there is no hope for you:

1. God won’t hear you if you don’t hear Him: Proverbs 28:9
2. Jeremiah 6:19
3. James 1:21

C. How can one claim to love God when they hate the preaching of His word?

1. Jeremiah 15:16
2. John 14:23-24
3. I John 2:4

II. When Opposing Truth You Are Promoting Error

A. There is an opposite to the truth:

1. John 8:43-45
2. One who errs FROM THE TRUTH, is a sinner in ERROR: James 5:19-20

B. If you stand against truth, you then are standing for error:

1. Romans 2:8
2. Romans 6:16
3. II Timothy 2:16-18

III. Some Use the Preaching of Truth As An Excuse Not to Serve God Faithfully

A. The old “That’s too much negative Hell, Fire, and Brimstone preaching” excuse would keep you from listening to Jesus:  BTW, what is God??   Hebrews 12:29 “For our God is a consuming fire.”

1. Matthew 5:22
2. Matthew 5:28-30
3. Matthew 10:28
4. Matthew 13:41-42; 49-50
5. Matthew 18:8-9
6. Matthew 23:33
7. Matthew 25:41
8. Matthew 25:46
9. Mark 9:43-48

12. John says the book of Revelation is: “The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 1:1)

a. Revelation 19:20
b. Revelation 20:10
c. Revelation 20:14-15
d. Revelation 21:8

B. Saying “I’m not coming if you preach that” cannot and will not change the truth or the faithful preaching of it:

1. Whether they’ll hear it or not, truth must be preached: Ezekiel 2:1-7
2. When they have itching ears, preach the truth anyway: II Timothy 4:2-5
3. Consider these words: I John 4:6

Conclusion:

A. Those that teach truth just have to realize they won’t always be loved for it:

1. John 8:40
2. Galatians 4:16

B. Teaching the way of God is teaching truth: Matthew 22:16
