What Some Will Do To Get What They Want
|
I. Introduction: Let’s consider how sin and false doctrine attract us.
A. Sin is very attractive (Hebrews 11:24-26).
1. Our fleshly wants war against our spiritual needs (Galatians 5:16-17
and I Peter 2:11).
2. The appeals to our flesh are hard to overcome (Mark 14:38).
3. Giving in to the desires of our flesh will kill us (Philippians 3:18-19).
B. False doctrine is very appealing and allows us to get what we want in the
flesh (II Peter 2:1-3; 18-19).
1. False doctrine allows for what you “want to hear” (Jeremiah 14:13-14,
Lamentations 2:14, and II Timothy 4:2-4).
2. False doctrine causes us to forget the right ways (Jeremiah 23:25-33
and I Timothy 1:18-20).
3. False doctrine corrupts and destroys (Jeremiah 8:5-12; 9:1-6).
II. Body: When it is conceived (James 1:14-16).
A. It all starts with a sinful desire, the wrong heart (II Samuel 13:1-2; cf. II
Chronicles 12:13-14).
1. Don’t make provisions for the flesh (Romans 13:14).
2. Examples, like Amnon, are for a reason (I Corinthians 10:1-11).
3. Because of the desires of some, they trust in falsehoods (Jeremiah
13:25-27).
B. Subtlety is a sure sign of sinfulness (II Samuel 13:3).
1. A real friend would stop us from sin, not help us into it (Proverbs 27:9;
cf. Galatians 4:16).
2. That old serpent loves to work on us through subtlety (Acts 7:18-19, II
Corinthians 11:3-4 and Matthew 26:1-5).
3. False teachers work the same way (Acts 13:6-12 and II Corinthians
11:12-15).
4. The faithful are not subtle (Proverbs 12:17, Proverbs 22:20-21,
Proverbs 28:1, and Acts 26:24-26).
C. Sin is then thought out and put into action (II Samuel 13:4-8; Proverbs 23:6-
7).
1. What will you give your mind over to (Ephesians 4:17-19)?
2. False teachers have plans (Matthew 7:15, Matthew 24:11, and
Ephesians 4:14; cf. II Corinthians 2:11).
D. Remove the men (II Samuel 13:9).
1. The godly will not stand for sin (Psalms 26:5 and I Corinthians 16:13).
2. False teachers cannot stand against prepared watchmen (Isaiah 62:
6-7, Ezekiel 33:2-8, and Titus 1:10-14).
E. Against all reason and good judgment, some will force into an action that
ought not to be named among God’s people (II Samuel 13:10-14; cf. Leviticus
18:9).
1. We can fall against our better judgment (Mark 6:17-28).
2. Some not only give heed, but lay down to be spiritually raped
(Jeremiah 5:30-31 and I Timothy 1:3-7).
3. Should sin and error be named among God’s people (Ephesians 4:
22-24 and Hebrews 12:14)?
III. Conclusion: When sin has you, it ruins you and sends you away (II Samuel 13:
15).
A. The devil will sift you as wheat (Luke 22:31).
B. You’ll be devoured (I Peter 5:8).
