Another Sermon Outline by Brian A. Yeager
Uncertain Sounds
I. Introduction: I Corinthians 14:8-9
    A. Proper preparation depends on proper warning (Ezekiel 33:7-9).
    1. Warning that leads to salvation (Colossians 1:27-29, I
    Thessalonians 2:10-12; 5:14, and Hebrews 3:12-13).
    2. Warning to prepare for defense (I Timothy 6:20 and Titus 1:10-14).
    B. Teaching has to be clear and understandable (I Corinthians 2:1-5).
    1. Our desire ought to be to help others KNOW the truth (Mark 7:14,
    Ephesians 5:17, II Peter 1:12, and I John 5:12-13).
    2. Clear understanding is needed for us to do that (Proverbs 10:13,
Matthew 13:19, and II Peter 3:16-18).

II. Body: Is Our Teaching Distinctive [clear, unmistakable] (Nehemiah 8:8)?
    A. “Brethren” are producing uncertain sounds because of trying to “sound
good” (II Peter 2:18-19 and Jude 16-18).
    1. The easy listening gospel to please men (Galatians 1:10 and John
    5:18; 39-47).
    2. What people want (Isaiah 30:9-11 and II Timothy 4:2-5).
    B. Uncertain sounds from trying to fit in (II Corinthians 6:14-18).
    1. We are different (I Peter 1:13-16; 2:9-11 and I John 3:1-3).
    2. We cannot be ashamed of who’s we are (Mark 8:38).
    C. Are we the people of the book or not (Psalms 119:48; 72)?
    1. If so, do we hold to the standard (Matthew 21:23-32; cf. Colossians
    3:17 and II Timothy 1:13).
    2. Most claim to be, so are we the “some say” or the “thou art”
    (Matthew 16:13-18)?
    3. Are we interested (Nehemiah 8:1-3)?
    D. Distinctive sounds come from being people of truth (John 17:17).
    1. Never compromising (I Kings 18:21 and Nehemiah 6:1-3).
    2. Always proclaiming (Matthew 10:27 and Acts 4:18-20).

III. Conclusion:
    A. Clear stands need to be made (Exodus 32:15-28).
    B. We need to understand, not be uncertain (Ephesians 5:15-17)
