Maybe It’s Time to Remodel Your Spiritual Life

 
Introduction:
A. The world of television has made many shows of recent about home redecoration and remodeling.
1. A home that needs repairs.
2. A part of the home that may need repairs.
B. Your body is a house:
1. I Corinthians 6:19-20
a. We are filled with the Spirit, through the word of God: John 6:63; Colossians 3:16
b. Christ dwells with us: Ephesians 3:17
c. God dwells in us: I John 4:15
2. II Corinthians 6:16
C. God will not however, dwell with us or us with Him, if we have sin within our house:
1. John 8:12
2. Galatians 5:16-17
3. I John 1:5-6
4. I John 3:8-10
5. II John 9
D. We need to remodel ourselves based upon what a Christian is to be throughout the New Testament.
1. Living after the example of Christ: I Peter 2:21
2. Being a doer: James 1:22
 
I. Tear Down That Old Structure that is Decaying for One that Will Last for an Eternity
A. We must sometimes tear down to build up:
1. After Assyria would come up to the neck of Judah (Jerusalem) and God would protect them in efforts to let them learn what would happen to them if they did not repent, the Lord said of those remaining: II Kings 19:30
2. Jeremiah 1:9-10
B. We must tear down our worldly mindset and build upon the spiritual mindset: Romans 12:2
1. Romans 6:6
2. Romans 6:12
3. Ephesians 4:22-23
C. Building upon a decaying / weak foundation will cause structure failure:
1. Luke 6:49
2. Knowing that the seed is the word of God (Luke 8:11), realize some truths from the Parable of the Sower: Luke 8:5-7
3. Build on the right foundation: Luke 6:47-48
a. I Corinthians 3:11
b. Ephesians 2:20
c. II Timothy 2:19


II. Remodel the Inside So That Change is Not Just For Appearance Sake

A. Sometimes we are only worried about how we appear to others (we should be concerned about how others view our spiritually, but not ONLY concerned about it): Matthew 6:1
1. Matthew 23:5
2. Luke 16:15
3. So what if you are approved by all: Luke 6:26
B. Appearances do not always tell the truth: John 7:24
1. Jeremiah 12:2
2. Matthew 23:28
C. Why waist time in appearing righteous when the Judgment Day will not be based upon how good of an actor you were before men?
1. Matthew 12:36
2. John 5:28-29
3. II Peter 2:9


III. Realize the Cost and the Reward

A. With anything that is to be built there is a cost to be paid:
1. Jesus paid for your sins: Romans 5:8-9
a. Galatians 1:3-4
b. I Peter 2:24
2. Jesus requests you give Him your life that you might gain life: Luke 9:23-24
3. By giving Christ your life you are building in the right way: John 12:26
B. The reward is great: I Corinthians 3:14
1. Colossians 3:24
2. II John v. 8
3. The reward: I John 5:11
Conclusion:
A. Consider Paul’s words in your efforts to build: Galatians 2:17-18
B. By rebuilding your broken down walls of faith you can be a good structure of God that you can be saved and help others to be as well.
