They Walked No More With Him

I. Introduction: John 6:47-66

A. Walking with the Lord is a difficult life (Matthew 19:27-29, Mark 8:34-38, Luke 21:15-17, and I Peter 1:3-9).
1. People often want the easy or convenient way (I Kings 12:26-33 and Acts 24:24-25).
2. People “feel” that Christ sacrificed so we don’t have to (I Peter 4:1-5).
B. As those who left the Lord, sometimes we hear something of God that we don’t want to hear (Jeremiah 11:7-10, Zechariah 7:8-14, Matthew 19:3-9; cf. Jeremiah 4:4-5; 5:21-26, and Ezekiel 12:1-2).
1. Many have customs and beliefs they don’t want challenged with Scriptures (Acts 16:16-23 and Acts 21:21-22).
2. Some won’t hear just because of the speaker or perceived message source (Mark 6:1-6 and Luke 7:29-30).
II. Body: What Will Cause You to Leave the Lord (Hebrews 3:12)?
A. Will you leave Christ because of ignorance (Matthew 13:18-19)?
1. We can known and understand the right way if we’ll search (Ephesians 3:4, Colossians 1:9-11, I John 5:20, and Revelation 1:3).
2. Ignorance is a choice (Ephesians 4:17-18).
3. Examples of disobedience and judgment helps us not to be ignorant (I Corinthians 10:1-12).
4. If the Gospel is just amusement to you, the amusement will fade away (Ezekiel 33:30-33)?
B. Will you leave Christ because of the trials you’ll face (Matthew 13:20-21)?
1. Satan bets that you can have too many trials (Job 1:9-11; 2:4-5).
2. God’s promise is contrary to Satan’s bet (I Corinthians 10:13).
3. Endurance is a unique quality of those walking with the Lord which we MUST have (Ezekiel 24:15-18, Romans 5:1-3, II Thessalonians 1:3-5, II Timothy 2:1-4, II Timothy 3:10-12, and James 5:10-11; cf. Matthew 10:22).
4. Sometimes it’s “my feelings were hurt” and some are running away from truth forgetting that truth pierces (Hebrews 4:12; Ephesians 6:17).
C. Will you leave Christ because of this world and riches (Matthew 13:22)?
1. Are you a child of Demas (II Timothy 4:10; cf. I John 2:15-17)?
2. What’s the dollar amount on your soul (Matthew 16:26-27)?
III. Conclusion:
A. Consider some passages about our walk in Christ (Ephesians 4:1, Ephesians 5:8, Colossians 2:6-7, I Thessalonians 4:1-2, and I John 2:3-6).
B. Let’s make our answer like Peter’s (John 6:66-69).
