A Brief Study of Samson
Introduction:
The story of Samson is one of strength and weakness. We can
relate to this story in times when we think that we are secure and we act
without thought. This we can relate to when we find ourselves struggling
to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. We will also learn of
pride and stupidity. His record is found from Judges
13:24 through Judges 16:31.
I. Samson’s
First Encounter With Love
Judges 14 and 15 – Samson
falls in love with a Philistine woman, he defeats a lion, marries the woman,
gives a riddle, and she betrays him. She is given to his friend whom he
trusted
II. Samson’s Encounter
With Lust
Delilah the harlot is used to seek out Samson’s weakness
Judges 16:1-31. He because of pure
arrogance ends up giving up his weakness. Then he opens up and tells her
the truth even though she had tried to take his strength and life 3 times
previous.
III. Samson’s Weakness
both Spiritually and Physically
Samson had the "me syndrome", he did not want to give the
glory to God, even though God gave the strength to him.
(Judges 15:16) "And
Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw
of an ass have I slain a thousand men."
With God all things are possible (Matthew
19:26), and we must give HIM the glory (I
Corinthians 10:31).
(Proverbs 8:13) "The
fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way,
and the froward mouth, do I hate."
