I. Introduction: Hebrews 11:8-16
    A. Jesus was a pilgrim and a stranger in this world (John 3:19-21).
    1. He didn’t desire earth as His habitation (John 14:1-3 and John
    20:15-17).
    2. He was a stranger for He did not “fit in” (John 5:30; 6:39).
    B. True disciples were strangers and pilgrims in this world (John 15:18-
    20).
    1. They did not desire to have earth as their home (Philippians 1:
    21-24 and II Timothy 4:6-8).
    2. The disciples certainly did not “fit in” (Acts 26:24-25).

II. Body: We too are to be strangers and pilgrims in this world (I Peter 2:11).
    A. We are strangers in this world because we walk according to a
different standard (Leviticus 10:1-2, II Samuel 7:1-7, Luke 4:4; 14-17,
John 6:45, Colossians 3:17, and II Timothy 1:13).
    1. We care about what God says, not what man says (Acts 5:29, I
    Corinthians 4:6, and Galatians 1:10).
    2. Does the world think you’re crazy (Titus 2:11-14 and I Peter 4:1-
    5).
    B. We are strangers in this world because we have different goals
    (Hebrews 13:14).
    1. We live godly rather than worldly (Psalms 4:3, II Timothy 3:12,
    Hebrews 12:28, James 4:4, and I Peter 1:13-16)
    2. We desire Heaven, rather than clinging to this world (John 12:25-
    26, I Timothy 6:12, and I John 5:11; 18-20).
    C. We are strangers in this world because we have different fathers (I
    John 3:8-10).
    1. Those that cannot hear the truth are children of the devil (John
    8:38-44 and II Corinthians 4:3-4).
    2. We are of the Father for we hear and obey the truth (John 14:21-
    24, II Corinthians 6:14-18, and I John 2:21-24).

III. Conclusion: Do you fit better into the world or the kingdom of the Lord
(Romans 12:1-2 and Philippians 3:3-16)?
    A. What is worth clinging onto here (II Peter 3:10-12 and I John 2:15-17).
    B. Jesus did not die for us to fit in here (Galatians 1:3-4; cf. II Timothy 2:
    19).
