Putting on the Devil
and Wearing Him Everywhere
Introduction:
A. Our lesson two weeks ago week
dealt with
“Putting
on Christ and Wearing Him Everywhere” in which we examined the evidence
on would display by wearing Christ (Some things will be held back this
week to keep from being overly redundant):
1. Among their brethren.
2. Among their families.
3. Among those in the world.
B. For a Christian to put on the devil they
first must take off Christ, for one cannot be clothed in light and darkness
at the same time (Colossians 1:13 and I Peter 2:9).
1. Light and darkness do not cooperate
or work together (II Corinthians 6:14).
a. Notice the comparison of God
and the Devil to light and darkness (Acts 26:18).
b. Jesus represents light, not darkness
(John 8:12).
2. You cannot be for and against the Lord at
the same time (Matthew 12:30).
a. Matthew 6:22-24
b. Revelation 3:15-16
C. We show whether or not we love God by our
deeds (John 3:19).
D. When a Christian steps back into the
world they walk away from God and their brethren:
1. II Peter 2:20-22
2. II Timothy 4:10
I. Wearing the Devil Among Brethren
A. The devil is the father of lies
(John 8:44).
1. When brethren wear the devil
among brethren they must do so deceitfully (II Corinthians 11:12-15).
2. Such is why faithful Christians are to
be calm and watchful (I Peter 5:8).
3. The faithful are warned of wolves in
sheep’s clothing (Matthew 7:15-20 and Acts 20:28-31).
B. Faithful brethren will realize those who
are wearing the devil because of:
1. Their lack of concern for studying
and learning the truth (Acts 28:26-27).
a. They ignore clear instruction
to study (John 5:39).
b. If they do study they never learn because
of their lives that are full of sin (II Timothy 3:7).
2. They lack interest in always remaining in
the work of the Lord (I Corinthians 15:58).
a. The Lord’s work is not important
because their work in the world is first; they are apathetic when it comes
to religious matters (Haggai 1:3-11).
b. They simply do not love the Lord (John
14:15).
3. Their disrespect of Bible Authority (Matthew
15:1-9 and Galatians 1:6-12).
4. Their unwillingness to acknowledge wrong
doing and repent (Acts 5:1-10 and Acts 7:51-60).
5. They have a terrible approach to worship
and meeting times of the local church for study:
a. They do not bring their Bibles.
b. They do not wear proper (modest) or respectful
clothing.
c. They are always late and rarely there.
6. They look for opportunities to be divisive
(I Corinthians 1:10-13; 3:1-5 and III John 9-11).
a. Such is why we must be watchful
instead of “simple” [naive] (Romans 16:18).
b. We must be willing to take action (Romans
16:17 and II Thessalonians 3:6).
c. Action helps stop the spread of apostasy:
i. I Corinthians 5:6-7
ii. II Timothy 3:8-9
7. They want fellowship with the world and unfaithful
brethren rather than those walking in the light (Ephesians 5:6-11).
8. They do evil and speak evil of good Christians
doing good work (II Timothy 4:14).
II. Wearing the Devil Among Your Family
A. Husbands who have put on the
devil are:
1. Not providers for the family:
a. Financially (I Timothy 5:8).
b. Spiritually (Ephesians 6:4).
i. Nurture defined by Thayer: “the
whole training and education of children (which relates to the cultivation
of mind and morals, and employs for this purpose now commands and admonitions,
now reproof and punishment) It also includes the training and care of the
body”
ii. Admonition defined is “exhort - instruction”
iii. I Corinthians 11:1
2. They lust after other women instead of fulfilling
their physical role to their wife:
a. Hebrews 13:4
b. I Corinthians 7:3(a)
c. Matthew 5:28-30
B. Wives who have put on the devil are:
1. Not providers for the husband:
a. Spiritually (Genesis 3:1-6, Job
2:9-10, and I Timothy 2:14).
b. Physically (I Corinthians 7:3[b]).
2. They do not portray the traits of a godly
mother (I Timothy 5:14).
3. They are a terror to their husbands and
children:
a. Proverbs 21:9
b. Proverbs 27:15
C. A home of those wearing the devil is:
1. Never hospitable (Hebrews 13:2).
2. Producing children that are hell bound
(Proverbs 22:6).
3. Not spiritually focused as the family
of Joshua was (Joshua 24:15).
III. Wearing the Devil Among Those in the
World
A. Means your love will be of those
things in the world (I John 2:15-17).
1. Instead of being separate from
sin and sinners you fit right in.
2. You are unprepared to meet God (II Corinthians
5:10).
B. Means that you are an enemy of God (James
4:4).
C. Means that if you are trying to wear
Christ among some and the devil around others, you are a hypocrite:
1. Titus 1:16
2. Matthew 6:1-7; Matthew 23:14
3. Matthew 24:51
Conclusion:
A. If you are not a Christian you
are already clothed in Satan’s garment of sin. Cast it off
B. If you are a Christian who is having
troubles in what you ought to wear you need to pray, study, and seek out
your loving brethren to help you clothe yourself with righteousness (Revelation
3:17-21).
C. Put God first in your life and all other
things will fall into place (Romans 8:28).
