Another Sermon Outline by Brian A. Yeager
Nobody Is Perfect
I. Introduction: Excuses are not new (Luke 14:16-24).
    A. We will discuss the error of: “Nobody’s perfect, that’s why I can sin and go
    to Heaven” (John 8:34, Romans 6:16; 23, and I John 5:18).
    1. A Christian ought to have left sin behind (Ephesians 2:1-5, Galatians
    5:24, and I Peter 4:1-2).
    2. We should hate all manner of sin (Psalms 97:10, Amos 5:14-15,
    Romans 12:9; cf. Hebrews 1:8-9).
    B. When you tell someone they need to be perfect, they will most often point to
something you did wrong in the past (Galatians 1:13-16).
    1. We were made clean in conversion (I Corinthians 6:9-11) and in
repentance with confession since if you have sinned (I John 1:7; 9 and
    Revelation 3:19-20; cf. I John 2:1-2).
    2. If you have changed, no one should hold you accountable for those
things (Matthew 18:21-35; cf. Luke 17:3-4).

II. Body: We MUST be perfect (Colossians 1:20-22).
    A. Consider the commands (Matthew 5:48, II Corinthians 7:1, II Corinthians 13:
    11, I Timothy 6:13-14, Hebrews 6:1-3, James 1:3-4; 26-27, I Peter 1:13-16,
    and II Peter 3:10-14).
    1. Can you disobey a command from the Lord and be saved
    (Deuteronomy 18:19, John 5:28-29, and Hebrews 12:24-25).
    2. Folks, if we’re righteous we’re hardly saved (I Peter 4:17-19).
    3. What is the purpose of teaching anyone the commands of God
    (Colossians 1:28, I Thessalonians 3:10, II Timothy 3:16-17, and
    Hebrews 13:21; cf. Colossians 4:12)?
    B. What part of God’s law can you just “try to obey” (Deuteronomy 5:32-33,
    Jeremiah 7:23, Matthew 28:20, and James 2:10)?
    1. Can you “try to be baptized” (Mark 16:15-16)?
    2. Can you “try to repent” (Luke 13:3; 5)?
    3. Can you “try to worship God correctly” (Matthew 15:9)?
    4. Can you “try to teach the truth” (I Timothy 6:3-5, II Peter 2:1, and II
    John 9)?
    5. Can you “try not to commit fornication” (I Thessalonians 4:3)?
    6. Can you “try to have faith” (Hebrews 11:6)?
    C. We have to be like God to be saved (Ephesians 5:1-11).
    1. Some say, “I’m not Jesus, I’m not perfect”, well they’ve missed
    something (I Peter 2:21 and I John 2:3-6).
    2. There is no argument to come back with, “well, what about…”, the
truth is plain and clear!  Children of God simply are not sinners (I John 3:
    4-10).

III. Conclusion:
    A. Grace isn’t a license to sin (Romans 6:1-2).
    B. If thou will be perfect, you must really follow Jesus (Matthew 19:16-22; cf.
    Luke 6:40).
