The Message Hasn’t Changed

Introduction:

In this lesson we will learn that God’s word has not changed since the first century. The message is still the same. Yet, many decline that this is the case and thus lessons like this are needed to arm Christians in being ready to give an answer (I Peter 3:15), and to prove all things (I Thessalonians 5:21).

An example of some who teach that the word of God is NOT sufficient:

The Mormons:

II Nephi 29:6 "Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews?"

II Nephi 29:10 "Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written."

We will show through God’s ONLY revelation that His word is everlasting, without addition or change, and that it is all-sufficient in leading us to Heaven. We will see that any other Gospel is a perversion of the truth, because the message of the 1st Century is still the message to be learned and preached today!  Later Day Revelations are doctrines of the devil (I Timothy 4:1-2)!

I. God says His word is all we need

A. God’s word is everlasting 1. Luke 21:33"Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away."

2. I Peter 1:23"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."

B. God’s word is not to be added to: 1. Deuteronomy 4:2"Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you."

2. Proverbs 30:5-6"Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar."

a. The word was ONCE DELIVERED Jude 3 "Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints."
C. God’s word is all-sufficient:  1. (II Peter 1:3) "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:" a. Deuteronomy 29:29"The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law."

b. John 20:30-31"And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name."

c. John 21:24-25"This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true. And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen."

2. The New Testament is the word of Christ: Hebrews 1:1-2 "1. God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds." a. The words of Christ brings life (John 6:63) "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." 3. Christ gave His word to the Apostles through the Holy Spirit: a. John 16:13"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."

b. II Peter 1:20-21 "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

D. Did God lie? 1. Hebrews 6:18"That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us."

2. Titus 1:2"In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began."

II. Any perversion of God’s word is another gospel A. Galatians 1:6-12 1. Again, the word was once delivered Jude 3, making any "NEW REVELATIONS" something that is other than the ONCE DELIVERED Gospel of Christ. B. The Gospel of Christ was proven: 1. Mark 16:20"And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen."

2. Hebrews 2:3-4"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?"

3. Acts 26:24-26"And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad. But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness. For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner."

C. Any "OTHER GOSPEL" is condemned or cursed Galatians 1:8-9. 1. So is the bringer of other Gospels (Revelation 22:18-19) "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."
III. The message always will be…  A. Christ is our Prophet who gave us the Law we will be judged by: (John 12:48)"He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day." 1. Matthew 21:10-11"And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee."

2. Luke 24:19"And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people."

3. Acts 3:20-22

B. Christ is our Priest: 1. Hebrews 4:14 "Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession."

2. Who offered Himself for a sacrifice for us (Hebrews 9:22-28).

a. Matthew 26:28"For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."

b. Revelation 1:5"And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood."

C. We make contact with the blood of Christ in baptism having our sins washed away (Acts 2:38 and Acts 22:16).

C. Christ is our King: 1. I Timothy 6:14-15"That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of Lords."

2. We are converted into His Kingdom (Colossians 1:13) "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:"

a. We become members of the body of Christ [His Kingdom / church] upon obedience to the Gospel through faith, repentance, confession, and finally we are added through baptism (I Corinthians 12:12-13 and Galatians 3:27).

b. It is in the only Kingdom / body / church of Christ that salvation is given (John 14:6 and Ephesians 5:23)!

Conclusion:

The Mormons have erred! They offer no excuse, after all they admit they are just men: I Nephi 19:6 "Nevertheless, I do not write anything upon plates save it be that I think it be sacred. And now, if I do err, even did they err of old; not that I would excuse myself because of men, but because of the weakness which is in me, according to the flesh, I would excuse myself." God does not err. The Bible is inspired by God (II Timothy 3:16-17). Later day revelations exist to produce later day churches. Not the church of Christ which he died for (Acts 20:28 and Ephesians 5:25). Let the truth stand and all other false revelations be exposed. THE MESSAGE HAS NOT CHANGED!
