Another Sermon Outline by Brian A. Yeager
Is There Life After Death?
I. Introduction:
    A. We all realize that there is birth and death (Ecclesiasts 3:1-2).
    1. We need to be thankful to God for life (Genesis 1:26-27).
    2. We can thank Adam and Eve for death (Genesis 3:19).
    3. However, there is a promise that makes our lesson of great
importance (Romans 5:17-19, I Corinthians 15:21-22, and II Timothy 1:7-
    10).
    B. The denial of life after death is not new (Mark 12:18-27).
    1. The teaching of life after death has caused problems (Acts 4:1-2 and
    Acts 23:6-8).
    2. Some mock the teaching of life after death (Acts 17:19-32).
    3. We do need to know what will happen to our souls in death (II Peter 3:
    1-12).

II. Body: What happens when we die?
    A. The body dies, but the spirit of goes on (Ecclesiastes 12:7)
    1. The story of Lazarus and the Rich Man inform us where the ongoing
    spirit shall be (Luke 16:19-31).
    2. Jesus is proof that the spirit does not die (Luke 23:39-43 and Acts 2:
    22-32).
    B. After you die you’ll await the Judgment of which no man knows the time of:
    (Hebrews 9:27 and Matthew 24:35-36).
    1. Simply put, no man knows when Christ will return (Luke 12:36-40).
    2. Christ will come as a thief in the night (I Thessalonians 5:1-3).
    3. Some would desire to turn texts like Matthew 24 upside down (of
which the first 34 verses are not discussing the Judgment or return of
    Christ).
    a. The first 34 verses of Matthew 24 is talking about the
destruction of Jerusalem which is apparent of you read Matthew
    23:31-24:3.
    b. Fact is, those things written about Jerusalem were to occur in
    that generation (Matthew 23:36; 24:34).
    c. “Apocalyptic” language does appear in other texts that have
nothing to do with the Second Coming of Christ or the universal
Judgment (Isaiah 13:1-11 and Ezekiel 32:1-12).
    C. Many wonder what will happen on the Day of Judgment:
    1. Those alive and those dead will be brought together to be judged (I
    Thessalonians 4:13-18).
    2. Our bodies will be changed (I Corinthians 15:45-54).
    3. The Judgment scene is clear (Matthew 25:31-46).

III. Conclusion:
    A. On the Day of Judgment we will be required to give an account of what we’
    ve done (Romans 14:11-12).
    B. For this reason, we should live Christ here that we might live with Him in the
life to come (Philippians 1:20-21 and Colossians 3:1-4).
"And God hath both
raised up the Lord,
and will also raise up
us by his own
power"
(I Corinthians
6:14).
