How Much More Do You Expect God to Give You?

 
Introduction:
A. Too many have the “what have you done for me” attitude instead of the right attitude:
1. It is amazing how easily people will forget what God has done: Exodus 32:1
2. God has done an innumerable amount of God things for us: Psalms 40:5
3. We should know that God has done wonderful things: Isaiah 25:1
B. The Christian mindset should be that of a servant not one seeking to be served:
1. Romans 6:22
2. Hebrews 12:28-29
C. When things don’t go our way too many blame God and walk away:
1. Paul had a problem: II Corinthians 12:7
2. Paul brought that problem before God three times: II Corinthians 12:8
3. God’s answer: II Corinthians 12:9a
4. Paul’s attitude: II Corinthians 12:9b-13
I. God Has Already Given You Life and All the Provisions to Sustain Life
A. Life: Genesis 1:27
1. We didn’t create ourselves: Psalms 100:3
2. We are the work of the hand of God: Isaiah 64:8
3. Creation was through the power of God: Jeremiah 27:5
4. Jesus even reminded those who wanted error on MDR where we came from: Mark 10:6
B. Things Necessary to sustain life: Genesis 1:29-30
1. Job 5:8-10
2. The Psalmist praised God for all He did for Israel: Psalms 136:1; 25-26
3. Isaiah 42:5
4. Paul and Barnabas preached about God (while refusing to be worshipped themselves) saying: Acts 14:17
II. God Has Given You His Son That You May Have Eternal Life
A. A gift is not something earned, but that does not mean it is something that is not needed:
1. Sin entered into the world and death by sin: Romans 5:12
2. Sin results in the soul of man being eternally lost: Matthew 25:41; Cf. Ezekiel 18:20 and Romans 6:23
3. Thus, there was a need for a gift: Romans 5:21
4. Just any sacrificial gift would not have worked:
a. Hebrews 10:1
b. I Peter 1:8-10
c. Hebrews 2:17-18
d. Hebrews 4:14-16
B. The gift of the Son of God shows us how much God loves us: I John 4:9
1. Ephesians 2:4-5
2. Titus 3:4
III. God Has Given You All That You Need to Know to Be Equipped to Obtain Eternal Life
A. God gave us the sacrifice of His only begotten Son, but we need to do things as well:
1. We need to obey the Gospel for the coming of the Lord will be: II Thessalonians 1:8
2. We need to give our lives to the Lord: Matthew 16:24-25
3. We need to remain faithful in all things unto the end: Revelation 2:9
B. Though some men may hate what God provides for us to be faithful, it is still a blessing to those who desire heaven to be their home.  Let’s consider a few of these things:
1. The scriptures which are able to make us wise unto salvation: Matthew 4:4, Romans 1:16, II Timothy 3:15-17, and James 1:21
2. Brethren to help you: Galatians 6:1-2
3. The assembling of the saints: Hebrews 10:24-25
4. Discipline: II Thessalonians 3:6;
a. I Timothy 1:19-20
b. I Timothy 5:20
5. Prayer: Philippians 4:6
Conclusion:
A. Can you imagine a child saying: “mom, I’ll clean my room but you better give me some ice cream first”?
1. Mom would say something like: “I brought you into this world and I can take you out.”
2. The difference between mom and God – God means it!  II Corinthians 5:10-11
B. Isn’t it time to give back to He who has given so much?
