God Hates Every False Way Introduction Texts: Psalms 119:104 "Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way."Psalms 119:128 "Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way." (An oath is a promise to speak the truth – Webster’s New College Dictionary) Zechariah 8:17"And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the Lord." Proverbs 23:23 "Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding."

I. God is a God of truth

Exodus 34:6 "And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth."Deuteronomy 32:4 "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he." Isaiah 25:1 "O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth."

II. Preachers need to preach truth and only truth

I Kings 17:24 "And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth."

A. God’s word is truth:

Psalms 33:4 "For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth."John 17:17 "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth." Colossians 1:5 "For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel." II Corinthians 6:7"By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left."I Thessalonians 2:13 "For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe." James 1:18-21"18. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. 19. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20. For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. 21. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls." B. When we go and preach God’s word [gospel] Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:15-16, and II Timothy 4:2 if done from his word, it is truth. We must preach His word Acts 8:4 "Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word."I Peter 1:22-25 "Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 23. Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.24. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25. But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you."

Notice what Paul said: Acts 26:24-25"And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad. But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness."

C. If Preachers fail to preach God’s eternal truths then they do not have God and should not be fellowshipped!

II John 9-11 " Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.10. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:11. For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds."

B. False Teachers need to be tried

I John 4:1 "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." Matthew 7:15 "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves."

D. False Teachers will have their reward

II Peter 2:1-2 "1. But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of."

III. Christians need to defend God’s eternal truths

A. The church is to be the ground a pillar of truth

I Timothy 3:15 "But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth."

B. We need to be set for the defense of the Gospel

Philippians 1:17 "But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel." Earnestly contend for the faith Jude 3 "Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints."

C. Those who change God’s truth into lies, they are servants of man

Romans 1:25 "Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen." Servants of man cannot be of Christ Galatians 1:10"For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ."

D. They are also servants of the devil

John 8:44 "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." Conclusion: Without God’s word we would be like Israel: Hosea 4:1 "Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land."

We need to do away with our lives and begin new ones!

Matthew 16:24-26 "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 26. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"

We become new creatures in Christ II Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

We get into Christ by being baptized into his body Galatians 3:27 and I Corinthians 12:12-13. After we have heard and believed his Gospel Romans 10:14-17, Repented of our sins Acts 2:38, and Confessed him Romans 10:10! Salvation exists only in the church the body of Christ Ephesians 5:23!
