"And They Shall Fight Against Thee…"

Jeremiah 1:19 "And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee."

Introduction: Sometimes in our Christian lives we look around and it seems as though there is no end in sight of the persecution we face. Yet, if we believe God’s word to be true and accurate we then must believe that we will be delivered.

Although Jeremiah was foretold that he would face persecution, he did that which was his to do –PREACH. He tried to hold God’s word but could not. We too should have his attitude: Jeremiah 20:9 "Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay."
 

I.   We will have to fight
Jude verses 3-4 "3. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. 4. For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ."

I Timothy 6:12 "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."

Our enemy is wise – Genesis 3:1-7

       
      II.   We will be delivered
God delivered Noah – I Peter 3:20-21 "Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ."

God delivered Israel - Exodus 18:10 "And Jethro said, Blessed be the Lord, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians."

God delivered mankind from sin – I Corinthians 15:22 "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."

When converted we are delivered from darkness – Colossians 1:13 "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son."

Pray for deliverance – Matthew 6:13 "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."

Through knowledge we will be delivered – Proverbs 11:9 "An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered." Proverbs 28:26 "He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered."

(How do we obtain knowledge?) – John 5:39 "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." Numbers 24:16 "He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open."
 

III.    We must have faith in that deliverance
Peter – A man that had faith, but not enough to face the storm – Matthew 14:22-31

Our faith must be built on the proper foundation - Ephesians 2:20-21 "20. And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone. 21. In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord."
 

IV.    We will have our reward
Matthew 5:10-12 "Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." Conclusion: Some think that suffering persecution is a sign of unfaithfulness. That is inaccurate:

II Timothy 3:12 "Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution."
