Everyone Needs the Great Physician

Introduction:

It seems that everyone has a story about a good doctor who has helped them or someone they care about in a great way. Yet, everyone does not tell the story of the Great Physician who has no long waits and no large forms to fill out. The Great Physician who cures all manners of illness and offers an eternal place with no suffering Revelation 21:3-7! Let's learn about this Great Physician so that we can tell others how to call on Him!

I. Who is the Great Physician?

A. Jesus Mark 2:17 "When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

B. This was His reason for coming Matthew 18:11 "For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost."

1. He is the way II Timothy 1:8-10 "8. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; 9. Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel"

2. The only way Acts 4:10-12"10. Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

3. Jesus was born for this purpose Matthew 1:21-23 "21. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23. Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."

4. He goes to God on our behalf Hebrews 7:22-25 "22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. 23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: 24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."

B. Modern medicine cannot save the body from death Hebrews 9:27 "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." 1. We should not fear our physical death but the spiritual Matthew 10:28 "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." C. Christ is the Great Physician because He presents to us a cure from spiritual death Hebrews 5:9"And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him." 1. Just like an order from a Doctor, if we do not follow the instructions we will surely die

II Thessalonians 1:8-9 "7. And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8. In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ."

2. Unlike modern day medicines that at times are limited there is salvation for everyone Titus 2:11" For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men."

D. You will have insurance premium which will cost your life (more than an arm and a leg) Luke 14:26-33 1. Some are not willing to pay the premium Matthew 19:16-22

2. We have to give ALL Psalms 62:7-8 "7. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah."

II. Who needs the Great Physician? A. Sinners Romans 6:23"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." 1 Kings 8:46 "If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near." 1. ALL Romans 3:23"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."

2. Only ones not in need are the sinless (those who have not broken God's law I John 3:4)

a. Children must reach an age of choice Isaiah 7:15-16 "15. Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good. 16. For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings."

b. A sinner is one that knows James 4:17 " Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

c. If sin is inherited, was Christ not a sinner since he was born of a woman? Luke 2:7 "And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn."

d. It cannot be argued that the child takes on the sins of the Father Ezekiel 18:20 "The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him."

2. Sinners is who the Great Physician died for Romans 5:6-8 "6. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
B. The world I John 5:19"And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness." 1. Some think that they are OK in sin, but God says otherwise James 1:15 "Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."

2. Paul warned that obeying sin leads to death Romans 6:16 "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?"

III. So many fail to call upon Him! A. So many like the illness of sin and keeping their own ways as did the Pharisees Mark 7:9 "And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition."

B. So many are blinded and addicted to Satan's world II Corinthians 4:3-4 "3. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."

1. The do not see or hear Matthew 13:13-15 "13. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 14. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: 15. For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them." C. The cure is plentiful, but time is not James 4:14 "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away."

D. The power is in the blood Matthew 26:28, contacted through baptism Acts 2:38 and Acts 22:16; after hearing and believing the Gospel then repenting of your sins Acts 2:37-41, and confessing Christ Acts 8:37!

Conclusion:

Christians - are you in need of a spiritual check-up? You ought to be doing them II Corinthians 13:5"Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" You have the instruction manual Hebrews 4:12-13 "12. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do."
