Yet Hast Thou not Known Me
|
I. Introduction: John 14:8-9
A. It wasn’t that Philip had never believed (John 1:43-46).
1. He accepted the office of an apostle (Luke 6:12-16).
2. He continued in that office (Acts 1:13-14).
B. What more did Philip need to see (II Corinthians 5:7 and Hebrews 11:1)?
1. Hadn’t he witnessed more than enough already (Luke 10:23-24, John
2:23, John 6:2, John 6:15-21, and John 12:28-30, cf. John 21:24-25)?
2. Shouldn’t he have been content just to see Jesus (Luke 19:2-4 and
John 12:20-21)?
3. Seeing Christ is more than physical sighting (Hebrews 2:6-10; cf.
Luke 1:1-4, and John 20:26-31).
II. Body: How long have you been with Jesus without knowing Him (Galatians 3:27;
cf. I John 2:1-6; 3:5-6)?
A. You know Jesus enough to request YOUR DESIRES, right (Mark 10:35-
45)?
1. It’s not about us getting what we want (John 1:10-13, Ephesians 5:17,
and Hebrews 5:8-9).
2. Our carnal minds and desires have to change (Romans 8:4-8, I
Corinthians 3:1-3, Galatians 5:24, and I Peter 2:11).
B. We know Jesus enough to be all high and mighty, right (John 13:1-17)?
1. We are servants (John 12:25-26 and Romans 6:16-22).
2. When we do all that is right, we still aren’t “great” (Luke 17:7-10).
C. We know Jesus enough to enact vengeance, right (Luke 9:51-56)?
1. We should get angry and sad over disobedience to the Lord
(Jeremiah 23:8-22).
2. We must even walk away from those who reject (Jeremiah 15:16-17,
Acts 18:5-6, and II Thessalonians 3:14-15).
3. However, vengeance is not our place (Romans 12:17-21).
D. You know Jesus, and He said peacemakers are blessed (Matthew 5:9), so
it’s okay to compromise for peace, right (Matthew 15:1-13, John 2:13-17, and
Hebrews 1:8-9)?
1. No, you don’t know Jesus (Luke 12:51)!
2. Jesus wants us to stand, not pass out cookies at the queer
convention (Ephesians 6:13).
III. Conclusion:
A. We have to have the right attitude to know Jesus (Philippians 3:7-11).
B. There’s only one way to get to know Him better (John 5:39; cf. Luke 24:44-
45)!
