If We Let Him Thus Alone, All Men Will Believe On Him
|
I. Introduction:
A. Following the resurrection of Lazarus, we find our lesson (John 11:45-57).
1. Miracles existed as a method of confirmation (Mark 16:15-20 and
Hebrew 2:3-4).
2. Those with open hearts will receive what is proven (Luke 8:15).
3. The opposite is true of those who have not honest hearts (Mark 3:1-6).
4. Folks, miracles didn’t affect hardened hearts even among “believers”
(Mark 6:39-54).
B. Certainly, we can tell that the “religious leaders” hated Jesus (Matthew 12:
14, Matthew 22:15, Mark 14:1, Luke 19:47-48, Luke 22:2, and John 5:16-18;
cf. John 8:37; 40).
1. People could see the difference (Matthew 7:28-29).
2. We need to understand that some think they’re doing God service
when fighting against the truth (John 16:1-3).
II. Body: They didn’t want the cause of Christ to continue (John 11:48).
A. Truth cannot be left alone by the adversary (vs. 48), for it will convert and
build up an honest heart (Psalms 19:7, Psalms 51:13, Isaiah 55:10-11, Acts
13:6-12, Acts 19:20, Acts 20:32, Romans 1:16, Colossians 1:3-6, I
Thessalonians 2:13, James 1:18, and I Peter 1:22-25).
1. We can see the fear of truth spreading even after Christ died
(Acts 4:1-22, Acts 5:14-29, Acts 17:1-13, Acts 19:21-36, Acts 21:28-
31, and I Thessalonians 2:14-16).
2. Fear not, we shall not let the truth be bound (II Timothy 2:8-9).
B. The fight of the adversary is so desperate that they’ll destroy Christ and all
that is good to keep things they way they are (vs. 48-50 and Mark 11:18).
1. Man does not want to change and this is their fuel for hating the truth
(II Chronicles 24:18-22, II Chronicles 36:11-17, and John 3:19-21).
2. We’d better watch out when we stand aright (Matthew 10:16-18).
a. Churches dividing (I Corinthians 1:10-13; 3:3).
b. Preachers losing support (Philippians 4:11-18).
c. Family, co-workers, employers, etc. (Luke 21:15-17).
C. The wicked will plot long and hard against the just (vs. 53-57).
1. They’ll plot, not knowing their day comes (Psalms 37:12-18).
2. They think they’ll shut us up (Jeremiah 18:18; cf. Jeremiah 5:11-14).
III. Conclusion:
A. Have you lived the kind of life that the devil cannot leave alone (Luke 22:28-
31)?
B. Are you a threat to those who pursue and engage in evil (Acts 13:44-51)?
